Trash Art x Projection Mapping

By Future Colossal

Our physical technologist, Trey Schibli, set out to explore TouchDesigner’s built-in toolset for projection mapping and discovered how powerful setting up a map with dynamic content can be using this wonderful program.

To do so, he chose to bring otherwise useless found items (trash?) to life with audio-reactive projections. When scouring the office for his canvas, the nooks and crannies of two pieces of Styrofoam caught his eye. He set them on a table, grabbed a projector, plugged in via Touchdesigner, and got to work!

Trey split the audio signal into three frequency bands, Highs, Mids, and Lows, and used those values to drive the visual content. Using just a couple of shapes and some noise, Trey made this trash rock!
